Why this exists

Wine Exam Trainer started from a simple observation while studying for wine exams: there was plenty to read, but almost nothing that made you produce — answer questions under a clock, write open answers and have them marked, draft tasting notes in the proper structure. Recognition feels like studying; production is what exams test. So we built the production side: an exam trainer for the WSET Level 2 and Level 3 Awards in Wines.

Wine Exam Trainer is built and operated by wijnleren (Ayke Tjiam), an independent wine-education project based in the Netherlands. You can always reach us at [email protected] — including with corrections, which we genuinely appreciate.

How our practice questions are created

Every question in the trainer is an original work, written against the published WSET syllabus and course-book structure — 968 Level 2 questions across all 25 chapters, 1,576 Level 3 multiple-choice questions across all 33 chapters, and 612 Level 3 open questions with key-fact mark schemes. Questions follow the real exam's format and difficulty targets, with balanced answer positions and syllabus-based distractors, and every question carries an explanation.

We do not use official WSET past papers, leaked exam content, or reproductions of exam questions — such material isn't legitimately available, and studying it would break exam rules anyway. If you spot an error in a question or explanation, tell us: the bank is corrected continuously, and the app has a feedback button on every question.

How the grading works

Multiple-choice questions are checked conventionally, with an explanation after every answer. Open questions and tasting notes are graded automatically against each question's key facts — one point per distinct fact, no negative marking, mirroring how WSET-style open papers are marked — with the model answer shown after every attempt. The AI grading is a study aid, not an official assessment; the point is fast, specific feedback on every attempt.

Independence, clearly stated

Wine Exam Trainer is an independent study tool. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or operated by the Wine & Spirit Education Trust. WSET® is a registered trademark of the Wine & Spirit Education Trust; we use the name only to identify the exams we help you prepare for. Enrolment in a WSET course and exam happens through WSET's approved programme providers — we're the practice partner alongside, not a course provider.

The free stuff is genuinely free, no account needed: 25 Level 2 practice questions, Level 3 questions with model answers, the open question guide, plus a free mock exam per level and one AI-marked open question a day in the trainer. Pricing for full access is on the homepage.
